This project involved the creation of two digital self-portraits, using bitmap illustration techniques in Adobe Photoshop. The objective was to explore both realistic representation and creative transformation, applying tools such as brushes, layers, and image adjustments.
The process began with a photographic self-portrait, carefully framed to include the bust (face, hair, neck, and shoulders), capturing not only physical features but also an expression that could later be reinterpreted.
Version A focused on a faithful illustration of the original photograph, emphasizing observation, proportion, and digital painting technique without the inclusion of external elements.
Version B reimagined the self-portrait through a more expressive and narrative lens. For this version, I combined my likeness with the character Sophie from Howl’s Moving Castle, drawing inspiration from her gentle resilience and transformative journey. The illustration style was influenced by the work of @robbiegoncalves on Instagram, known for his dreamy, layered compositions and painterly use of light and texture.
This second version allowed for greater stylistic freedom and symbolic interpretation, blending personal identity with fictional influence to create a visual that bridges self-portrait and character study.
