INTERLUDE explores how communication design can create small interruptions within the accelerated rhythm of everyday life, encouraging moments of awareness, reflection, and presence. In a world dominated by urgency and repetition, the project proposes subtle disruptions that invite people to slow down and reconnect with the present moment.
The project is built around the symbolic principle 1=1, a poetic idea suggesting that every moment, no matter how ordinary or brief, holds complete and singular value when experienced consciously. Rather than treating time as something to optimize or accumulate, INTERLUDE frames pause as an act of resistance and attention.
The first phase materializes through urban interventions designed to interrupt automatic routines. Posters printed with photochromic ink reveal hidden images only under sunlight, creating ephemeral visual experiences that emerge and disappear with changing light conditions. NFC-enabled stickers connect the physical space to a digital platform containing interactive experiences centered on pause, reflection, and sensory awareness. The project also extends into digital environments through interventions on screens, televisions, and public displays, inserting unexpected messages into everyday technological spaces.
The use of photochromic ink became central to the concept, functioning not only as a visual technique but as a metaphor for perception itself: some things only become visible when there is time and space to truly notice them.
In its second phase, the project expands into both digital and physical formats. An online archive gathers sounds, phrases, and visual experiences that users can revisit and interact with, while a tactile physical agenda transforms time management into a slower, more contemplative ritual. Together, these elements encourage users to experience everyday life with greater sensitivity and intentionality.
Blending graphic design, urban intervention, and sensory interaction, INTERLUDE positions design as a tool capable of reshaping our relationship with time, space, and attention — creating brief but meaningful pauses within the constant motion of contemporary life.
